Mothers Cry Out

From all different regions of Turkey, the mothers came together as a one of a kind sit-in protest and accused the HDP (The Peoples’ Democratic Party) as being responsible for the alleged recruitment of their children for PKK terror organization.

THE CHALLENGE

At the beginning there was only one mother. Hacire Akar’s scream “I want my child” echoed all over the country.

The mother’s struggle against the HDP Provincial Directorate for her 21-year-old son Mehmet Akar has yielded results and Akar family reunited with their child. That also gave hope to families who want to rescue their children from the grip of terror.

On September 3rd, 2019, families started a sit-in in front of the HDP Provincial Directorate. The action that started with 3 families grew like an avalanche.
Families who have been victims of their children being kidnapped to the mountains by PKK, came to Diyarbakır one by one. The number of families participating in the action increased to 10 on September 5th , to 13 on September 7th, and finally to 58 families.

The cry of the families was echoed throughout Turkey. The mothers and fathers had visitors from politicians, non-governmental organizations, artists, martyrs’ relatives and people from all walks of life made their way to Diyarbakır to support them in their rightful fight.

We were there to share the sorrows of mothers and to record the stories of the stolen young lives by PKK terror organization.
